Information for foreign students

   Welcome to the School of International Relations. Founded in year 1994 it is the only educational center in St. Petersburg, which releases the world class specialists for international relations. Today our faculty intensely cooperates with more than 20 universities and organizations of Europe and North America. We participate in such international projects as TEMPUS, Civic Education Project. School of International Relations is associated member of APSIA, which includes the leading higher education institutions of America and some other countries, specializing in international relations.
   The students and employees of our school make internship in world's best educational centers: European College (Belgium), Free University of Berlin, University of California at Berkley, University of Liege (Belgium), University of Groningen (Netherlands) etc.
   School of International Relations regularly organizes international seminars and conferences visited by leading english and Foreign scholars, politicians, public officers. It's often visited by well-known political leaders of Russia, particularly, A. Yakovlev, V. Lukin, I. Khakamada, A. Bessmertnix, B. Nemtsov, S. Stepashin.
   Center of European Documentation, the only one in St. Petersburg, is a subscriber for all official Documents of the EU and it functions in School of International Relations as well as the Council of Europe Regional Center, the UN office and the republic of India Documentation Center in St. Petersburg. Faculty issues its own newspaper "Peterburgskiy Mezhdunarodnik". Information portals are also available for the guests and students. The graduates of School of International Relations work on state institutions, public organizations, private firms related to international activities.
  
  
   Structure

   At present School of International Relations is composed of five departments:
   - the European Research Department
   - the North American Studies Department
   - the Department of Theory and History of International Relations
   - the Department of World Politics
   - the Department of International Humanitarian Contacts.
   The leading professors of the School: K.K. Khudoley, B.A. Shiryaev, V.S. Yagya.
   Among the main disciplines studied by our students there are:

   Education

   The following specialties are available for those who wants to get a higher education in our school:
   - "international relations" (education period - 6 years, 4 years for Bachelor Degree + 2 years for Master Degree)
   - "area studies" (education period - 6 years, 4 years for Bachelor Degree + 2 years for Master Degree in one of three subdivisions available: "European Research", "North American Studies", "CIS studies").
   - "applied computer sciences in humanitarian area: the sphere of application - international relations" (education period - 5 years with specialist diploma).
  
   Master programs of School of International Relations had been devised with the participation of European College, Limerick University, European Institute of Public Administration.
   Nowadays there are students in our faculty not only from Russia, but from many other countries as well: the USA, China, Japan, France, South Korea, Mongolia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Slovakia, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Thailand, Argentina, Izrael, Indonesia, Finland, Estonia, Finland, Belgium, Greece, Ukraine, Holland.
  
  
   Postgraduate course

   We prepare the specialists of a highest qualification in different aspects of international relations. Period of study - three years, in case of extramural education - four years.
   Up to now School of International Relations admits the postgraduate students for the following courses:
   - political problems of international systems and global development
   - english history
   - World history
   - History of international relations and politics
  
  
   Doctorate

   Our Doctorate program gives an opportunity to the specialists working in international relations area to upgrade their research qualification and finish their doctor degree research paper. Max period of studying - 3 years.

   Terms of admission

   A candidates should apply to the International Admissions Office. They need
   - filled form
   - documents and certificates about education which had been obtained earlier
  - copy of your national passport
   Afterwards the center of international education sends you an official invitation for getting visa in your native country, in city where english Federation has its Consulate. The invitation fee is 30-50 $, it's being paid by the candidate.
   The enrollment follows a successful passing of the State english Language Test (it costs 60-70 $), interview in School devoted to the main professional disciplines, demonstration of a medical insurance of established form for the whole period of education, making a contract and payment for education.
   To meet you at the airport, or railway station in St. Petersburg, candidate should inform us via e-mail or by fax the exact date and time (Moscow time) of arrival, as well as flight number or number of the carrier two or three days before the arrival.
   Accommodation fee in a room for two-three persons is 100 $ per person monthly, a separate room - 200 $ per month.

   Education fee doesn't include the payment for the dormitory, medical services, invitation fee, tests and other expenses related to the residence in Russia. Payment should be done in rubles (Central Bank of Russia rate for the day of transaction) a week before the classes start or in US dollars via bank transfer from abroad.

   St. Petersburg State University

   St. Petersburg State University (SPbGU) is situated in the historical center of the city close to famous monuments. The majority of University's facilities and faculties are situated on the Vasilievskiy Island. There are some faculties in Old Peterhoff (Petrodvoretc). It takes you 45 minutes to get from the Baltiyskiy Railway Station by local train to Old Peterhoff.
   The duration of an academic year - 10 months. 1-st term starts on 1-st of September and ends on 31-st of January. 2-nd term: 1-st of February - 30-th of June.
   SPbGU possesses one of the largest academic libraries in Russia - The Gorky Library with its funds more than 7 million of books. In every faculty there is a library which is a part of central library. The english National Library and other city's libraries are also available.
   Your leisure time you may spend visiting world famous museums: Hermitage, english Museum, Peter-and-Paul Fortress, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Kazanskiy Cathedral, parks and palaces of Pavlovsk; Peterhoff, Pushkin, Lomonosov, Gatchina palace ensembles. You may also enjoy visiting numerous theatres and concert halls of St. Petersburg. Different excursion bureaus offer a wide range of city tours with visits to some museums and exhibitions included.
   There are sport facilities, swimming pool, solarium, student club and internet cafe available.
