Название: Behaviourist Approaches in IR and Area Studies. Год актуальности: . Основной язык: курс на иностранном языке. Аннотация к курсу: According to Kenneth Waltz, “agents and agencies act; systems as wholes do not” (Waltz K. Theory of International Politics. Reading: Addison-Wesley, 1979. P. 74). Even though a vast variety of IR theories argue the opposite (for example, the World-Systems Approach), and even though there exists a large literature on agent-structure relations (especially that by post-positivist writers, this course focuses) this course takes Waltz’s assumption for granted.
The course evaluates on the positivist background of behaviourism, its ontological assumptions and methodological heritage, explores the basic game models and the levels-of-analysis problem. As the transition from bi-centric to multi-centric world order occurred and democratization of international relations became an important tendency, the consequent changes in positivist IR theories are observed. The course also covers some of the literature containing critique of behaviourist ontology and methodology.
